Micromachining

Laser micromachining which is used to produce mechanical structures with sub-millimeter features is rapidly growing in popularity as picosecond and femtosecond lasers are becoming more available.  Traditional laser ablation methods cannot be utilized to produce high tolerance machined parts with such small feature size,  due to the heat generated in the ablation process.  As a result, it is necessary to utilized ultra-fast lasers that have an electric field density large enough to create a Coulomb explosion.  This explosion caused by short pulse micromachining lasers can remove the material via a “cold ablation” process, therefore, preserving the integrity of the surrounding material.  In addition to the tolerancing advantage of the Coulomb explosion in comparison to thermal ablation, there is the added benefit that since this is an electronic effect, there is no need to take the materials absorption properties into account making this a wavelength-independent process. The adoption of laser micromachining has seen its most rapid adoption in the medical industry because short pulse micromachining lasers deliver superb quality when machining a variety of materials used for implantable devices.  On this page, you will find a list of all of the micromachining lasers we offer at RPMC.

Altair Series

Altair: Femtosecond Laser

The ALTAIR is an ideal solution for biophotonics applications such as multiphoton microscopy where deep excitation of red-shifted indicators such as RCaMP, dtTomato, and MCherry is required.  Providing <160fs pulses, average power up to 20W and peak power up to 1.5MW at 1µm, the ALTAIR is the preferred solution for both OEM and researchers in the microscopy and lifesciences fields.  The fiber-based design ensures robust and reliable 24/7 operation while providing supreme pulse quality from a user friendly, ultra compact air-cooled package.

CEUV Series

R0Z2-Image-Compact-Efficient-UV-LaserAreté has developed a commercial series of compact and efficient DPSS laser sources, capable of operating over a wide range of pulsing conditions (duty-cycle and PRF), in a low SWaP package, with average power up to ≈5W @ 266nm, 10W @ 355nm or 532nm, 20W @ 1064nm, suitable for airborne applications. The design has been tested in brassboard hardware and a prototype is being developed.

Diadem Series

DIADEM Series

DIADEM Series is a compact, air-cooled, high energy ultrafast laser for advanced micro-machining applications that require short femtosecond pulse widths. The Diadem is available with up to 40µJ of pulse energy, 30W of average power, and operation up to 1MHz (standard), with pulses below <400 fs and an M² < 1.2. This laser has been specifically designed for demanding medical implantable device and electronics manufacturing as well as high peak power optogenetics applications.

Onda Series

Onda 532nm: 532nm High Energy Laser

The Onda Series is a DPSS nanosecond OEM laser platform aimed at high-end applications requiring both excellent beam quality and high peak power in materials such as metals, glass, plastics, and various delicate and hard materials. Developed initially as a high-energy seeder for advanced MOPA laser systems, the Onda is now available as a standalone device operating at the wavelengths of 266, 355, 532 and 1064nm. The compactness and ease of use allow for superior operation flexibility and performance / cost ratio.

Q-SHIFT Series

Q-Shift SeriesThe Quantas-Q-SHIFT series is a family of Q-switched DPSS lasers featuring a built‑in nonlinear wavelength conversion stage, allowing the production of wavelengths that are not accessible with conventional solid-state laser sources, including 1163, 1177, 1300, 1317, 1551 and 1571nm. An optional harmonics generator is also available for for the Q-SHIFT, allowing generation of up to the 4th harmonic for each fundamental wavelength.

Sirius Series

Sirius-532: Picosecond DPSS lasers

SIRIUS is a very compact, high energy hybrid ultrafast laser for advanced micro-machining applications and supercontinuum pumping, offering over 120µJ and > 5 W, with pulses below 10 ps from single shot to 1MHz and an M² of < 1.2. This laser series specifically designed to allow for ergonomic and user-friendly operation. SIRIUS is ideally suited for selective ablation, electronics, and photonic applications.

VaryDisk Series

VaryDisk E150The VaryDisk Series platform is a high energy, multi-milli-Joule laser system for laboratory investigations or industrial use. This is a thin disk regenerative amplifier for amplification of femtosecond, picosecond or nanosecond pulses with amplification factors in the order of 10⁶. The output specifications can be chosen according to our customers needs, mainly by choice of the seed laser (multiple seed lasers are possible) and various options available. The base configuration typically provides up to 150 W average power @ 1030 nm, 15 – 150 mJ pulse energy with 1 ns pulse width (compressible to < 2 ps), and a repetition rate range from 1 kHz to 10 kHz.

Wedge Series

Wedge-XF-1064: 1064nm Picosecond Laser

The Wedge series of DPSS Lasers have been designed for OEM applications like micro machining of hard and soft materials, specialty marking, glass and crystals engraving, LIDAR, LIBS, Spectroscopy and medical diagnostics. High peak powers, with relatively low energy and heat generation, allows efficient ablation and non-linear interaction with most materials. The compact and lightweight package represents a great benefit in LIDAR and other aerospace applications, while short pulses give extremely precise time-of-flight measurements.
Second Harmonic (532 nm output) and wavelength conversion option widen the product application range.
