Pulsed Lasers White Papers

Context-Dependent Sensory Processing Across Primary and Secondary Somatosensory Cortex

Are you looking for a high-power, high repetition rate, femtosecond laser for your bioimaging application? Check out our newest white paper, titled “Context-Dependent Sensory Processing Across Primary and Secondary Somatosensory Cortex.” This white paper, provided by Jerry Chen of Chen Labs at Boston University, details their successful experiment, investigating the roles of the primary and secondary somatosensory cortex during a tactile working memory task in mice. Within the experiment, in vivo calcium imaging of RCaMP1.07 imaging was performed using a 40MHz, 1040nm, 5W Altair fiber laser from SPARK Lasers.

Altair-AVG-300x200 (1) The ALTAIR mode-locked fiber laser produces high average powers up to 20W, ultrashort femtosecond pulses  of <160 fs, at a high repetition rate of 80 MHz (others available) in an air-cooled, ultra-compact and robust package.  The ALTAIR is an ideal solution for bioimaging/biophotonics applications such as multiphoton microscopy where deep excitation of red-shifted indicators such as RCaMP, dtTomato, and MCherry is required. As a mode-locked fiber laser, the ALTAIR provides high stability and excellent beam quality.  A host of options can be added to the system such as GDD pre-compensation down to -30,000 fs^2 (lower options available), custom wavelengths, harmonics, repetition rates, and more.

A similar alternative to the ALTAIR, the ALCOR series is the most advanced femtosecond fiber laser emitting at 920 nm or 1064 nm. With ultrashort femtosecond pulses of <130 fs (< 140fs for ALCOR 920 4W), at a high repetition rate of 80 MHz (others available) this series is specifically designed for multiphoton microscopy instrumentation and industrial OEM integration, working with 24/7 operations, in an ultra-compact, robust and air-cooled format. Featuring the new ALCOR 1064 5W, and ALCOR 920 4W, with the highest average power commercially available at 920nm, as well as the XSight and FLeXSight external modules, allowing for fine and fast gating and power control, and GDD precompensation.
